Kara started her career working as an Adolescent and Family Counsellor for the Ted Noffs Foundation. She worked with teens, young adults and families who were all exposed to street life. It was through creating very real and genuine connections that Kara was able to see therapy develop into life changing experiences. Creating a secure relationship where you feel understood and have unconditional support, is the foundation of great therapy! This practice still forms the basis of how we work today. Amazing things happen when someone believes in you, even if you don’t!
I have a deep curiosity in trying to understand the big questions like, why we do the things we do. I like to bring this curiosity into the therapy space where I invite you to think about your own experiences and what causes you to feel or act in a certain way, and where that might come from.
I’m a big believer in learning new tools so you can add them into to your emotional toolbox. I want you to walk away from sessions with new skills to use in real life. I really believe this forms the basis of long-term change and growth.
I am very warm and casual in my approach and sessions have a conversational feel. I really place a lot of importance on the therapeutic relationship and create a nurturing and safe space to talk openly without judgement. Nothing is off limits or taboo in the therapy space.
Outside of the therapy space you’ll find me spending lots of time with my dog Ralph. I adore him to bits!
You’ll also probably find me at my local café. I can’t cook if my life depends on it. Not even Ralph will eat my cooking.
I also love being social and catching up with friends as much as possible. Usually, we’re just hanging out at someone’s house or doing more eating at cafés.
I’m a sucker for Grey’s Anatomy (yes, that show is STILL running!)
I’m also really enjoying my true crime podcasts.
And I just bought my first DSLR camera so I’m trying to learn how to take beautiful shots.
